How to Clean and Maintain Your Leather Goods

The Do's and Don'ts of Keeping Your Leather Products Looking Great

  • DO regularly clean the leather with a soft brush or damp cloth

  • DO regularly "air out" the leather

  • DO dry wet leather naturally, away from artificial heat

  • DO wipe excess liquid immediately with a clean cloth or sponge; let the leather air dry

  • DO keep leather supple with a specialized leather conditioner every 3-6 months

    • DO test any conditioners, cleaners, polishes or wax in a hidden spot beforehand

  • DON'T spot clean the leather; clean the entire surface

  • DON'T machine wash leather

  • DON'T get leather wet whenever possible

  • DON'T tumble dry leather

  • DON'T iron leather

  • DON'T immerse leather in water to clean

Other Great Reminders

  1. Keep the items in a cool, dry place when not in use

  2. Keep leather items out of the sun. The sun will dry the leather out and cause it to become brittle

  3. Add moisture to your leather

  4. Keep leather away from abrasives that can scuff or cut it
